Cet article s’interroge sur la position de Derrida face à la question de l’animal. En particulier, il suit Derrida en quête de ‘l’animal’, d’abord en esquivant la question du langage et du logos – attributs niés à l’être animal par une certaine tradition philosophique –, en s’arrêtant au contraire sur une question qui semble essentielle : l’animal peut-il souffrir ? Mais quel animal ? Il suit dans un deuxième temps Derrida dans sa « passion » pour les animaux, pour suggérer qu’il y a là comme une substitution – christique, messianique, cathartique, parodique ? – de l’un aux autres, ce qui apparaît surtout avec l’expression étonnante « ecce animot ».

This article wonders about the way Derrida addresses the issue of animal. It particularly follows Derrida seeking for the ‘animal’, first avoiding the question of language and of logos – attributes refused to animals by some philosophical tradition. On the contrary, it focuses on a question appearing to be essential : can animal suffer ? But which animal ? Secondly, the article follows Derrida in his « passion » for animals, suggesting that there might be as a – christic, messianic, cathartic, parodic ? – substitution of the latters by the former, which appears with the surprising phrase « ecce animot ».
